Golden Beaches & Colonial Grandeur

Sri Lanka's south coast is one of the most rewarding stretches of coastline in Asia. In just five days you travel from the cosmopolitan energy of Colombo, along the Southern Expressway to the perfectly preserved Dutch colonial fort of Galle, through the whale-watching waters of Mirissa, and onto the gentle surf breaks of Weligama.

This tour balances history and adventure beautifully. You'll walk the 1.5km ramparts of Galle Fort at sunset, watch blue whales surface just metres from your boat off Dondra Point, snorkel above vibrant coral reefs, learn to surf on Weligama's beginner-friendly waves, and enjoy some of the finest seafood restaurants in Sri Lanka at beachside tables with your feet in the sand.

Colombo
Arrival Day
  • Airport pickup on arrival - meet your TraLou driver
  • Hotel check-in and freshen up
  • Evening stroll along Galle Face Green - kite flyers, street food, ocean sunsets
  • Optional: visit Gangaramaya Temple lit up at dusk
  • Dinner at the Dutch Hospital Precinct - colonial setting, excellent restaurants
Overnight: Colombo
Day 2
Colombo → Galle
Full Day
  • Morning drive south via the Southern Expressway (2 hours)
  • Arrive Galle - guided heritage walk through the UNESCO fort
  • Dutch Reformed Church (1755), Maritime Museum, Galle Lighthouse
  • Walk the full 1.5km rampart circuit - ocean views on all sides
  • Afternoon: explore the fort's boutiques, gem shops, and cafes at your own pace
  • Sunset from the fort ramparts - one of Sri Lanka's finest views
  • Dinner inside the fort - rooftop restaurant with ocean views
Overnight: Galle (inside the fort)
Day 3
Galle → Mirissa
Full Day
  • Early morning (6:30 AM departure) whale watching boat tour off Dondra Point - blue whales, sperm whales, spinner dolphins
  • Marine biologist onboard to identify species and explain behaviours
  • Return to shore and relax on Mirissa beach - swimming, snorkelling, coconut water
  • Afternoon: explore Secret Beach over the headland - secluded cove, cliff jumping
  • Sunset from Coconut Hill - the most spectacular view on the south coast
  • Seafood dinner at a beachside restaurant - fresh catch of the day

Weligama + Mirissa
Beach Day
  • Morning: Weligama Bay surfing lesson - Sri Lanka's premier learn-to-surf beach with long, gentle waves (15 min from Mirissa)
  • Snorkelling at Weligama's calm reef - turtles, reef fish, coral
  • Lunch at a beachside cafe in Weligama
  • Afternoon at leisure on Mirissa beach - swimming, reading, relaxing
  • Optional evening: sea turtle nesting watch at Rekawa Beach (seasonal, 30 min away)
Overnight: Mirissa
Day 5
Mirissa → Colombo
Departure Day
  • Leisurely breakfast by the beach
  • Drive back to Colombo via the expressway (2.5 hours)
  • Optional stop at a roadside spice garden or gem workshop en route
  • Optional: Colombo shopping at Odel or Pettah market before departure
  • Airport drop-off for your departure flight
