TraLou Sri Lanka was built from resilience, kindness, and a deep love for the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
My name is Lourdes Sharline, the founder of TraLou Sri Lanka, and my journey into tourism is not just a business story - it is a story of resilience, kindness, and the deep love I have for my beautiful island.
I was born and raised in the coastal town of Kalutara, in Sri Lanka's Western Province. Like many Sri Lankans, I come from a humble middle-class family where life was simple but filled with love and strong family values.
Over two decades ago, my life changed suddenly after a spinal injury that left me paralyzed from the hips down. Doctors told me that I would never walk again. It was a very difficult time for me and my family, and the future felt uncertain.
But instead of giving up, I slowly learned to rebuild my life with strength, courage, and hope.
Years later, something unexpected happened. Through a friendship with a traveler from Ireland and the encouragement of my partner Nirosh, I was introduced to the world of tourism. What began as simply helping a few visitors explore Sri Lanka slowly turned into something much bigger - a dream that grew into TraLou Sri Lanka.
Today, more than ten years later, TraLou Sri Lanka has become much more than a tour company. It is a bridge connecting travelers from around the world to the heart of Sri Lanka.
Over the years, many of my guests - especially from Ireland - have become close friends who have supported me and believed in my work. Their trust and kindness helped transform a small idea into the growing community that TraLou Sri Lanka is today.
Through this journey, I have also been able to support others. I work with dedicated drivers, guides, and local service providers, helping create opportunities for many families. I also try to give back whenever possible by supporting families in need and helping children with school supplies.
For me, this is not just a business. It is a passion, a purpose, and a way to share the beauty of my homeland with the world.
Many travelers arrive in Sri Lanka as visitors - but they often leave as friends, and some even return again and again.
